Patna, March 6, 2025 – The Bihar Labor Resources Department has launched the Bihar Migrant Workers App to support lakhs of migrant laborers in the state. The app was inaugurated by Labor Resources Minister Santosh Kumar Singh and Secretary Deepak Anand.

Labor Resources Department Introduces Database for Migrant Workers

Speaking at the event, Minister Santosh Kumar Singh highlighted that the app will serve as a boon for migrant laborers by connecting them with government services. The primary objective of this initiative is to create a comprehensive database of workers employed outside the state, down to the panchayat level.

Target to Register 20 Lakh Migrant Workers

The Bihar government aims to register 20 lakh migrant laborers, with an initial target of 10 lakh registrations within three months. To achieve this, labor enforcement officers have been given a mandatory task of registering at least 500 migrant workers per month in each panchayat.

Additionally, workers residing outside Bihar can self-register through the app. Upon successful registration, each laborer will receive a 12-digit registration number, which will help them access government welfare schemes.

Social Security for Migrant Workers

In a bid to provide social security to unorganized sector workers outside Bihar, the government has enforced the Bihar State Migrant Labor Accident Grant Scheme-2008.

Under this scheme:

  • ₹2 lakh grant is provided in case of accidental death of a migrant worker outside the state or abroad.
  • ₹1 lakh compensation for complete disability.
  • ₹50,000 compensation for partial disability.

Awareness Campaign and Registration Camps

Secretary Deepak Anand emphasized that the department will organize camps at block and panchayat levels to spread awareness about the app. The initiative will involve government employees, Vikas Mitras, Panchayat Employment Servants, Anganwadi workers, Jeevika groups, and Tola Servants.

Additionally, the app will be promoted in rural and urban areas through miking, banners, and posters. Special registration camps will also be set up at gram panchayats, government offices, railway stations, and bus stops to facilitate smooth enrollment.

Government to Reward Best Performing Officers

Labor Commissioner Rajesh Bharti announced that the government will recognize and honor five top-performing labor enforcement officers and one labor superintendent for their exceptional efforts in this special campaign. They will be awarded prizes and citation letters as a token of appreciation.

The Bihar Migrant Workers App is a major step towards empowering migrant laborers by ensuring their inclusion in government welfare programs and enhancing their social security.
